What’s Really Stopping You From Taking a Step Forward?
Psychology and business are not so different. The same issues that affect our mental health can also affect our decision making around starting, running, and growing a business.
The more I talk to people and ask them what it is that’s stopping them from launching their private practice, the more I generally hear the same thing:
“Nothing.”
Sure, for some people it’s financial. For others, it’s a fear of change. But for a lot of people that are interested in starting a private practice, nothing really is stopping them.
- They know they want to do it.
- They are ready for the financial planning.
- They feel nervous, but confident, that it’s the right choice for them.
… And yet, they don’t start. They don’t take that next step.
Many of us, the moment we have to actually make that change, experience the same choice paralysis we talk to our clients about.
There’s nothing really stopping us, but we’re procrastinating and procrastinating and letting time pass – and suddenly, it’s 2025, and nothing has been done.
So what IS stopping you?
If you’re like so many others that I’ve spoken with before, all that’s stopping you is the idea that it’s a big change, and it’s far easier to be comfortable where you are and procrastinate on such a big change until more and more time goes by.
I want to encourage you to take the same advice you would give yourself if you were your own client: just do it.
You can’t let choice paralysis stop you from reaching your goals. You know that it’s something you need to do for yourself. Whether it’s taking a small step or a big step, take some type of step and the rest will follow.
Here’s what I want you to realize:
You can start your own business and launch your practice WITHOUT quitting your current job.
You can start laying the groundwork, taking whatever steps you’re comfortable with, and then – only when you’re ready – leave your public health job and begin experiencing the reality of your own private practice on your terms.
Choice paralysis doesn’t need to hold you back because you don’t actually have to make the choice yet. You can make progress without commitment, knowing that you’re getting yourself to where you need to be.
One of the advantages of working together here at PsychFusion is that we can keep you accountable and help you with the steps you need to take.
